Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal 

This won’t be the approach some would have Phoenix taking this summer. 

Some would prefer they simply add depth to their roster. Fair. The Suns already have Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. How many offensive stars do they need? 

That isn’t the question. The Suns need playmaking. Chris Paul is seemingly too old to rely on. By contrast, DeRozan is still elite in that area. 

Why not put together a Big 3? Meanwhile, the Suns should be able to replace Ayton to some degree.

If they can find a similar player in free agency at cost, this should be a worthwhile trade-off for them. Whether Ayton has “it” or not.
