Does Deandre Ayton have “it”? By now, it seems like a fair question for NBA observers to ask.
Ayton certainly has the physical attributes to dominate a game. Ayton is one of the strongest big men in the NBA, and he’s fairly mobile at his size as well.
On the other hand, he seems to be lacking motor. Ayton has not been playing with maximum effort in 2022-23. Perhaps the question isn’t whether he has it – does Ayton want it?
Does he want to be elsewhere? It’s possible that the relationship between Ayton and the Suns has reached a breaking point.
If so, they ought to shop the former number one pick this summer.
