This move looks different for Dallas depending on whether they retain Irving. 

If they can, they’re building a super team. Randle has been inconsistent as a leading man. On the other hand, he could be absolutely elite as a third option. 

If Irving walks, this is a desperation move on the Mavericks’ behalf. They should still make it. A Doncic/Randle tandem could make some noise together. 

If they don’t? The Mavericks will have to rebuild anyway. Doncic will likely request a trade. The Mavericks will get a historic haul in exchange for him.
