There is a huge obsession with 3-and-D wings in the modern NBA. There’s a good reason for that. The value of a 3-and-D wing cannot be overstated. It is also deceptively rare to find them.
It’s not uncommon to try to get players into that role, despite the fact that they may be lacking in either of those two areas. Let’s take a look at Dillon Brooks of the Memphis Grizzlies as an example.
There is no doubt that Brooks is an elite defender. It is even possible for Brooks to serve as a secondary shot creator in the NBA. Having said that, he is a consistently poor shooter from the three-point line.
It might be said that Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers, on the other hand, is the gold standard for what the ideal 3-and-D wing should be in the NBA.
There is no question that this is an elite 3-and-D wing who is capable of creating his own shot on the level of a star.
Could he be on the Grizzlies next season?
