The Los Angeles Lakers lead the Golden State Warriors 2-1 in the Western Conference Semifinals. Regardless, it’s never too early to think about potential NBA offseason moves.
The Lakers have received overall effective play from D’Angelo Russell at the point guard spot since acquiring him ahead of the midseason trade deadline. Surely, the intent will be to re-sign him.
One area the Lakers would benefit from adding is an effective point-of-attack defender that can handle quicker guards. The team had an elite one in Alex Caruso but ultimately deemed the luxury tax implications would not justify re-signing him.
The Lakers would need to be cognizant about the cost of whichever players they are adding to their roster since they will need to re-sign many of their supporting cast talents soon.
One player signed to a rookie deal that could check a few necessary boxes is Jalen Suggs of the Orlando Magic. He’s struggled to realize his potential in the NBA so far. With his team having plenty of backcourt talents ahead of having two lottery picks, perhaps he could be moved.
Could the Lakers get a deal done to acquire Suggs from the Magic?
