The Warriors have a couple of reasons to make this deal. Firstly, it’s a simple win-now grab.
Holiday is a more impactful player than Poole. For the Warriors, this is largely about trying to win another title.
His limitations as a floor spacer won’t matter as much with the Warriors, either. This is arguably the best shooting team in NBA history. The Warriors will improve by adding Holiday for his elite defense and well-rounded offensive game.
With that said, this is also about money for the Warriors. Holiday’s deal is soon to expire, whereas Poole’s extension is just kicking in.
