This is a bold suggestion. After all, the New York Knicks just advanced to the second round of the NBA playoffs. 

When it comes to Robinson, it may not matter. He was found complaining about his role on social media this year.

If Robinson requests a trade, the Knicks should probably honor it regardless of their playoff success this year. 

Here, they’re directly replacing him. Ayton isn’t as impactful of a defender as Robinson, but he’s got a slightly better touch on offense. All told, they’re roughly equal.

Of course, Ayton is younger. That’s why the Phoenix Suns are also absorbing Fournier’s contract here. If they don’t think he’s a playoff rotation player, the Suns may opt to simply replace Ayton in free agency. 

If so, they’ll like this next trade better.
