Well, the Mavericks don’t do this deal unless they have to. Preferably, they’ll simply retain Irving.

Irving and Luka Doncic are one of the most talented offensive duos in the NBA. With that said, they may not have that option.

Irving may not like playing with Doncic. He may want “his own” team. Whatever the case may be, he doesn’t have to stay in Dallas. 

If he wants to leave, and he wants to go to Washington, this is a good return. Avdija is an exciting young player, Gafford would be the best big on this roster, and Morris is a starting-caliber point guard.
