Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal 

The Mavericks would like this trade if they’ve got the same evaluation of Okongwu as we do. 

That’s a bold leap. Okongwu hasn’t held up to the scrutiny of a starting role. Are we sure he’ll succeed when he’s granted one in Dallas? 

Well, little in life is certain. We like Okongwu. Realistically, he could be the anchor for this Dallas defense. He’ll also make a quality pick-and-roll partner for Doncic. 

If the Mavericks can’t hold onto Kyrie Irving in free agency, all of this is moot. They’ll need to hang onto their assets while they figure out their next steps.

With that said, if they do keep Irving, acquiring a big man like Okongwu should be the next step.
