Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal 

Please don’t misconstrue this as a prediction. This is not the route that the Nets appear likely to take. By all accounts, owner Joe Tsai wants to field a competitive team.

The Nets are more likely to move draft picks than receive them. This is more of a diagnosis. The Nets are far from title contention. Realistically, the best thing they could do is plan for the future. 

This deal accomplishes that goal. In time, Shaedon Sharpe should be exactly the type of half-court offensive creator that this team is missing. Meanwhile, they’re also landing a pick that would already have been conveyed in the lottery. 

the Nets have the opportunity to create a major transaction cycle after moving Bridges in a trade of this nature. Someone will always have to take the shots for a team and have plays ran for them. Someone will fill the void and put up numbers in Bridges’ place.

If the Nets can begin to stack up on draft picks to the point where they are set for a rebuild, they could return to being players in free agency and build toward title contention.
