The NBA features more talent now than it ever has before. That doesn’t mean it’s easy to build the right team. Just ask the Cleveland Cavaliers. They had a successful summer by all accounts.
At the moment, it looks like they may be eliminated by the New York Knicks anyway. In theory, their front-court pairing of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley made sense. They’re a dominant defensive pairing.
Unfortunately, it’s beginning to look like there are serious questions about the duo on the offensive end. With that said, if the Cavaliers do lose in the first round, they still had a better season than the Dallas Mavericks.
Issues with the Mavs’ roster construction plagued them throughout the season. They sorely lacked in the rim protection department, then depleted their wing defensive capabilities after parting with Dorian Finney-Smith in the deal to acquire Kyrie Irving.
The Mavs have a lot of work to do this offseason. They need to finally address their lack of a long-term answer at the center position by making a substantial move. It’s just one of the many issues that need addressing, but again, it serves as a foundational element.
Could they acquire Jarrett Allen from the Cavs this summer?
