Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Derrick Rose, 2024 Second-Round Pick (MIA via NYK), 2025 Second-Round Pick (BKN via NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: F Dorian Finney-Smith
With that said, there’s a reason 3-and-D wings are so valued around the league. They can play with anybody. They’re the NBA’s skeleton keys. You can roster anybody else if you’ve got a few of them. That’s the advantage of such players.
Some would argue that a team can’t have too many 3-and-D wings. Perhaps that’s true. With that said, if you can, the Brooklyn Nets might. Between Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Royce O’Neale, and Finney-Smith, there isn’t much room to maximize each.
If Finney-Smith stays this inconsistent from long range, he could be the odd man out. It would make plenty of sense for the Nets to move him in a trade this offseason to better balance out their roster based on how he performed after the midseason trade.
Finney-Smith is at his best when he can complement a playmaker that can draw multiple defenders and create quality looks for teammates. That’s how he thrived with the Dallas Mavericks as a frequent beneficiary of Luka Doncic’s passing as a corner spacer.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Dorian Finney-Smith, New York Knicks & Brooklyn Nets Updates
The New York Knicks do not have an elite facilitator on their roster like Doncic, but they have multiple scorers, like Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson, that can draw attention. Finney-Smith already has extensive experience playing with Brunson, too.
Should the Nets accept this package for him?
