Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal 

The Warriors are mostly doing this deal for the future. 

In part, they’re avoiding paying Green’s next contract. He’s on an expiring deal. So is Hield, but he’s not likely to be as pricey as Green. 

Meanwhile, the Warriors net a first-round pick here as well. That’s good value for an aging Green who’s about to potentially earn a max deal. 

Still, this deal may not tank them in the present, either. Hield is one of the best movement shooters in the NBA, and the Warriors could use an elite backup point guard like McConnell.
