Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
The Nets have a few reasons to do this deal. Firstly, this team is stacked with 3-and-D wings.
Finney-Smith has looked like the odd man out recently. The Nets don’t need to be paying him over the next several seasons with Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, and Royce O’Neale on the books.
With that in mind, they might as well shed his contract. Granted, Shamet is on a similar length deal, but, he makes a bit less annually. The Nets will be happy to shed that salary.
Meanwhile, they may actually benefit from flipping Finney-Smith for Payne. The Nets could use a little more half-court creation on offense.

Payne isn’t a star, but he can create shots for himself at times.
