Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal

Some Grizzlies fans will be scared off by Gobert’s contract. They shouldn’t be. 

After all, Jones will be due for a new one soon. As pricey as Gobert’s contract is, this deal should end up saving Memphis some cap room when combining his next deal with Clarke and Adams. 

Moreover, it should make them a better team. Gobert has become somewhat underrated in NBA circles. This is still one of the best rim protectors in basketball – imagine him alongside Jaren Jackson Jr. 

Finally, this deal also has the Grizzlies netting a pick swap for taking on Gobert’s pricey contract. If they can find a suitable backup point guard to replace Jones, this deal could make them better while improving their future in the process.
