Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal 

This trade comes with a caveat for the Blazers. If they land the number one pick in the NBA draft, it is obviously off-limits. 

Nobody would pass on the opportunity to draft Victor Wembanyama. Otherwise, nothing should be off-limits here. If the Blazers are drafting second, picking Scoot Henderson to pair with Damian Lillard makes little sense. 

They might as well make a blockbuster trade instead. Lillard seems to want to stay, but he’s obviously cognizant of the team’s need to land him a co-star. Siakam could be the perfect player.

After all, any co-star for Lillard should be a strong two-way player. Siakam fits that description. If Portland can retain Jerami Grant in free agency, this deal could get them back to contention. 

In other words, it would mean a successful summer for this organization.
