Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal 

This probably isn’t Plan A for the Nets. 

Plan A would be to trade for a superstar. If the Nets can make that happen, they won’t entertain a deal like this one. They’ll be looking to make win-now moves. 

Let’s assume that they don’t. It’s a distinct possibility. The Nets can make a compelling offer for a star, but so can other teams, and only so many stars will become available this summer.

If they can’t, this is a good Plan B. The Nets are getting two of their own first-round picks back here.

That gives them options – if they’re a lottery team next season, they’ll at least benefit from that outcome.
