Still, even a good plan can go awry. Look at the Brooklyn Nets.

Years ago, this team had a plan. Without their own draft picks, they opted to build the best program that they could until they were able to attract star free agents. 

It worked. The Nets signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Then, they completed the plan by sending all of their draft capital to the Rockets in exchange for James Harden.

Somewhere along the line, the plan went south. Now, all three of those star players are on different teams. With that said, the Nets are in a decent position.
