The Hawks have several reasons for making this trade. 

Firstly, they’re finally freeing up time for Onyeka Onkongwu. The promising young big man has been buried behind Capela on this bench for a long time. 

Secondly, Hardaway Jr. will be useful for this team. They could use more movement shooting around their star backcourt. Hardaway Jr. has outstanding off-ball gravity. 

Still, the most important reason the Hawks are doing this deal is to make back some draft capital. They gave up three first-round picks to acquire Murray.
