Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal
In some ways, this would be a significant shift for Boston. Typically, they’ve been built around great defensive big men.
Towns certainly doesn’t fit that description. In fact, he’s quite the opposite. On the other hand, the big men that Boston does have may be able to compensate for Towns’ defensive limitations.
In particular, we’re thinking of Robert Williams III. This isn’t the same as pairing Towns with Gobert. Williams III isn’t just a stationary rim protector – he’s a switch big.
On the other end of the floor, Towns’ elite floor spacing will make up for his poor shooting.

In fact, Towns is likely a more impactful offensive player than Brown. Even if that doesn’t hold true, this deal has the Celtics landing a star player on a long-term deal who hasn’t already expressed some interest in leaving ahead of a contract year.
