Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
The Knicks have a few reasons to do this deal.
For starters, Valanciunas is on an expiring contract. Even if he doesn’t work out in New York, the Knicks are flipping Robinson for an unprotected first. That’s a solid return.
With that said – Valanciunas may work out in New York. He’s realistically a more talented offensive player than Robinson. He’s simply a far inferior defender.
Which, of course, is exactly why he may not work out.

Still, this deal has the Knicks moving on from a disgruntled player and getting a good return in the process.
