Why The Houston Rockets Do The Deal
Obviously, if the Rockets land the first overall pick, they won’t do this deal. Nobody is trading Victor Wembanyama for Dejounte Murray.
In fact, if they land the second pick, they should simply select Scoot Henderson. That would have them acquiring a point guard with superstar potential on a rookie contract. For argument’s sake. lets assume this pick lands outside of the top-2.
Suddenly, the Rockets will be entertaining some difficult questions. Does any remaining prospect have a strong likelihood of becoming as good as Murray? If they don’t think so, this trade could appeal to them.
Murray satisfies a lot of their needs as well. This is one of the best defensive guards in the NBA, and Houston really struggles on that end.

Throw in strong playmaking, and the fact that Murray is young enough to improve, and the Rockets would have to consider this.
