Even the best-laid plans may go to waste. Just ask the Dallas Mavericks. This team acquired Kyrie Irving at the 2022-23 NBA season’s trade deadline.
Pairing him with Luka Doncic was supposed to give them one of the most potent offenses in the NBA.
It wasn’t exactly gone that way. The Mavericks are just 4-9 since acquiring Irving.
Despite having two of the most talented offensive players in the NBA at their disposal, the Mavs do not look like a team that will contend for the NBA championship this season.
Perhaps they just need to flesh this roster out. If Dallas can retain Irving in free agency this summer, they should be a better team if they can add some more quality rotation pieces.
Could Gordon Hayward of the Charlotte Hornets be one?
