Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal
Remember that caveat about the Rockets drafting Victor Wembanyama?
The same applies here. The Spurs shouldn’t look to acquire a playmaking big man if they’re drafting a generational big man. Let’s assume they’re not.
We’re even assuming they aren’t drafting Scoot Henderson, either. If they are, they should be grooming him as a primary playmaker. A playmaking big like Sengun may not be the best pairing.
On the other hand, if the Spurs are drafting one of the many talented wings in this draft, Sengun would be a good acquisition. Drafting that wing makes their rotation crowded when factoring in Keldon Johnson.

Meanwhile, Sengun provides the type of frontcourt passing that Gregg Popovich has had tremendous success with in the past.
He may help the Spurs usher in a new era of the beautiful game.
