Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal 

Let’s assume that Davis is willing to play in Boston. 

If he isn’t, this is a moot point. That’s outside the scope of this thought experiment. The team will communicate with his agent. We’re assuming that they’re getting the go-ahead in this deal. 

In that event, flipping a distressed asset for Davis would be a smart move on Boston’s part. Davis remains one of the best two-way big men in the NBA. This season, he’s engendered some confidence in his ability to stay healthy as well. 

If there are reservations here, they’ll have to do with the big men Boston already have. That’s fine.
