Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal 

One thing is certain: the Raptors don’t do this deal for the incoming players. 

Ironically, they could be helpful – if they were keeping Anunoby. The Raptors could use a backup big who spaces the floor, and a sturdy backup floor general. This deal has them landing one of each. 

Here, they’re not. That’s why they’re not interested in the players they’re receiving. The Raptors would be rebuilding – they’re in this deal for three unprotected first-round picks. 

The organization is in a good position to think about the future. They could make further moves, including a bigger one that sends out Pascal Siakam or stay put.
