Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal 

Frankly, young role players who fill a vacancy for a team likely have the best odds of helping a contender. 

The Mavericks have a vacancy. Specifically, this team badly needs a big man who protects the rim. Given their current offensive strategy, it would be optimal if they also spaced the floor. 

In other words, they need Mo Bamba. 

There’s nothing complicated at play here. The Mavericks need a player like Bamba, and this deal has them getting one. They shouldn’t worry about his fit with Christian Wood, either. He’s looked good in a sixth-man role for Dallas this season.

Wood can be the first man off the bench to replace Bamba, or play alongside him for stretches. Since they both space the floor, there will be room for them both in the rotation.
