Phoenix Suns Receive: G Terry Rozier, 2025 First-Round Pick (CHA)
Charlotte Hornets Receive: C Deandre Ayton
None of which is to say that the status of non-shooting bigs hasn’t changed.
At one time, they ruled the NBA. Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, and others were the best players of their era, save for a certain bald-headed shooting guard.
Those days are long gone. If an NBA big can’t shoot, he’s probably not destined for stardom. Teams don’t like to build their offense from the low block as they did in the 80s and 90s.
Surely, the Suns knew this when they selected Ayton with the first overall pick. For whatever reason, they chose him anyway.
