Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
The Grizzlies have a few seasons to do this deal.
Firstly, it helps them avoid paying Brooks. As valuable as he’s been to the team, they may prefer financial flexibility over committing a large contract to a player with a shaky jump shot.
On the other hand, it makes basketball sense, too. Adding Bamba could allow them to start a lineup with five-out spacing without compromising their defense.
Having him as a stationary rim protector while Jaren Jackson Jr. plays free safety should give them a dominant defense.

Hachimura is the wild card here. If the Grizzlies don’t see upside in him, they may pass on this deal. If they do, Bamba, Hachimura, and a protected first may be more valuable to them than Brooks.
Should the opposite be true for the Lakers?
