Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal
Frankly, this deal doesn’t mean Boston has to stop contending at all.
Brown and Anunoby are not in different stratosphere as players. They’re comparable floor spacers, and Anunoby is comfortably a better defender. He’s just not on Brown’s level as a shot creator.
That’s why the Celtics are getting two first-round picks and a swap as well. In all likelihood, they won’t use that draft capital to select prospects. They’ll package it with some of their own draft capital to trade for another shot creator.
If they’re able to do so, this deal could make them an even better team in a couple of years. Anunoby and another offensive star ought to outweigh Brown’s impact.
