With that context in mind, Knicks fans couldn’t be blamed for resenting Pelicans fans. They’re the team that stole Williamson from them.
Of course, that’s not entirely accurate. For whatever reason, it felt like Williamson would land in New York. That feeling was never grounded in logic.
The draft is randomized, and the Pelicans won the rights to draft Williamson.
His Duke teammate RJ Barrett was supposed to be a solid consolation prize. He was the third overall pick in the same draft. So far, it hasn’t necessarily worked out that way.

It wouldn’t be fair to call Barrett a bust. He’s been productive at times, and he’s got plenty of time left in his career. With that said, it might be fair to say that he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations thus far.
