Sometimes, there are simply too many cooks in the kitchen. NBA teams can run into the same dilemma.
That can leave a couple of good cooks out. It’s not that they can’t cook – it’s just inefficient to have five good people on a two-person job.
They may have too many players with a particular skill set to play. No matter how talented each is, they could end up on the wrong side of that equation.
For example, look at Robert Covington of the Los Angeles Clippers. This is a strong 3-and-D wing.
The Clippers simply have too many 3-and-D wings to give him regular rotation minutes.
