Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal 

We already said that NBA teams don’t prefer to tank unless necessary. We suspect it’s particularly painful for the Spurs. 

This is a team with a legacy of greatness. The Spurs were fixtures in the title conversation for decades. This is not a look we’re accustomed to seeing them wear. 

At the same time, they have tanked before. The Spurs bottomed out to acquire Tim Duncan. That’s largely how they designed those decades of dominance. They’re hoping to have the same luck and draft Victor Wembanyama this year. 

Surely, they’d love to pair Davis with him for a modernized twin towers look. At the same time, Davis should fit with anyone they could draft.

For the Spurs, this is about putting an end to the tank as soon as possible. 

It feels like that’s something they’d probably prefer to do.
