Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
It’s hard to say that an NBA team has had too much success. On the other hand, if that’s possible, the Warriors are experiencing it.
This roster is about to become unaffordable. Draymond Green will be due for a new contract soon, and Jordan Poole’s extension kicks in next season. Something is going to have to give.
It may be Andrew Wiggins. That’s part of why the Warriors do this deal. Fournier has the biggest contract they’re receiving here, and while he’s arguably overpaid, his contract is manageable.
Of course, there’s a slight conflict here. The main draw of this return may be Toppin, but if he develops like the Warriors hope, he’ll be due for a sizeable raise after next year.

They’ll cross that bridge when they come to it – he may even be Green’s direct replacement. If the Warriors plan on replacing him, that is.
