Well, the Clippers don’t do this deal to acquire Simmons. With that said, there’s still hope for the former number-one pick.

Simmons is still young enough to turn his career around. If he can get back to his previous levels of production, this could be a steal for the Clippers. 

In fact, this could be his best chance. The Clippers have suffered from a lack of point guard play in recent years, and they’ve got the front-court spacing that’s necessary to maximize Simmons.

Small-ball line-ups with Simmons running point could be effective for this group.

On the other hand, Simmons may just be making the money work here. If so, Finney-Smith and four first-round picks are a fair return for George anyway.
