Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
The Nets received all of the picks they’re dealing here during their busy trade deadline. They got three of them for Kevin Durant and one of them for Kyrie Irving.
Here’s the thing: it doesn’t matter how many picks the Nets have at their disposal. As long as the Houston Rockets own their first-round picks through to 2027, they’ve got no incentive to bottom out.
So, why not trade the picks? This Nets roster is deep, defensively-minded, and versatile. If they were to add a star this summer, they could get right back to NBA title contention.
George could be the perfect addition. He replaces Finney-Smith’s 3-and-D skillset while bringing a healthy dose of shot creation in addition.

In other words, he’s a star player. With Durant and Irving both gone, they need talent like George. Perhaps he could attract more talent, given the market, too.
