Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
In a roundabout way, all the Hawks are doing here is upgrading at one position while downgrading at another.
Gobert and Capela are similar. They’re both rim-protecting big men whose only major offensive function is as a pick-and-roll finisher. Gobert happens to be the upgraded model.
By contrast, Anderson and Collins are both stretch fours. With that said, where Collins is hyper-athletic, Anderson is known as SlowMo for a reason.
It’s worth the trade-off. Gobert remains the best rim protector in the NBA, and he’ll thrive alongside a pick-and-roll ball-handler like Young.
