Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
Whether or not the Lakers will be able to improve next year as a result of this deal is a hard question to answer. There’s more to it than that, though.
There is a possibility that it could happen. It certainly strengthens the Lakers roster, and assuming that the Lakers are able to keep D’Angelo Russell in free agency, they’ll be able to surround LeBron James with a deep and impressive cast of quality players. However, he will not have a co-star to go along with him.
Fortunately, this deal also nets them the assets needed to trade for that co-star, which is a huge plus for them. Three first-round picks are being acquired by the Lakers in this deal.
They could package them along with one of their own and some of their younger players in order to acquire a player of the quality of Bradley Beal or Zach LaVine.

If, on the other hand, James were to request a trade, what would happen? As a result of this deal, they are also in a better position there as well.
As a result of these draft picks, LA may be able to rebuild its team in the long term. In either case, this would be a good deal for Davis if the Lakers were interested in moving him.
Should the Grizzlies be looking to add him?
