Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
The Wolves have a few incentives to make this deal.
For starters, they’re getting back some of the draft capital they sent out in the Gobert deal. Following this trade, the Timberwolves would have a little more flexibility than they do at the moment.
They’d also have a much better defense. They’re swapping a poor defender for two elite ones in Anunoby and Achiuwa. Suddenly, the Wolves would have an optimized, modernized defensive frontcourt.
Finally, they’d also be assembling a roster that better complements Anthony Edwards. Losing Towns may sting, but if Edwards is the future, the Wolves need to do whatever they can to maximize his impact.
