Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
Perhaps moving Towns to the 4 and pairing him with an elite defensive 5 was never the answer to his deficiencies in point prevention.
Instead, it may be better to simply surround him with big, strong defensive wings. If so, the Raptors are already built to host him. With Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes at the 4 and 3, Towns would be as protected as possible.
His elite positional shooting would also make up for any weakness the Raptors have in that area. Of course, the Raptors aren’t simply acquiring a floor spacer here, either.
They’re acquiring the best player on their team. Say what you will about Towns, but he’s one of the best offensive big men the game has ever seen.

In adding him, the Raptors would be giving themselves a superstar. Even if nobody’s expecting them to make the move.
