Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal

First, let’s presuppose that Durant does request a trade.

In that event, this is a no-brainer. The Nets owe their first-round picks to the Houston Rockets through to 2027. Unless they get those picks back, they’ve got no incentive to bottom out.

This deal helps them avoid that fate. In fact, this Nets team should be pretty good following this trade. It would be a surprise if they missed out on the playoffs.

With that in mind, the Nets may entertain this deal even if Durant hasn’t asked out. This team doesn’t appear to be in title contention following the Irving swap.
