Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal 

The Lakers, on the other hand, do not owe their draft pick to the Pelicans with any protection. They only owe them the right to swap picks. 

There is no upside in the Lakers bottoming out at this point in the season, since they could pick first, and the Pelicans could pick 30th, and they would exchange picks. 

With that in mind, this deal makes them a whole lot better. LaVine is a perfect co-star for LeBron James. He is capable of creating his own shot at will, but he can also provide space for him when he makes a play. 

Additionally, it would be nice to see Caruso rejoin the Lakers, who is one of the best 3-and-D guards in the NBA. If this deal is made, the Lakers would be able to put together a special season as well.
