Why The Orlando Magic Do The Deal
Here’s another question that teams ask themselves when considering their timeline: do we have our guys?
In other words, do we have players on this roster we can build around long-term? The Magic ought to feel like they do. Paolo Banchero is having one of the best rookie seasons in recent memory, and Franz Wagner is an obvious cornerstone too.
With that said, the Magic could use a floor-spacing, shot-creating point guard to complement those two. That’s VanVleet. He can create his own shot, but he also has value when another playmaker has the ball.
Meanwhile, at 28, VanVleet should still have some years of prime production left in him. He’s due for an extension this summer, so the Magic would want to be sure he’ll sign it with them.

As long as VanVleet is willing, this arrangement should benefit both sides.
