Frankly, the Knicks are too committed to Randle to hang onto Toppin. 

Even in today’s positionless league, these guys are both 4s. They won’t be able to co-exist for significant stretches. Meanwhile, there’s no choice to make – the Knicks will stick with the guy who’s playing like a star. 

With that in mind, they might as well get some value for Toppin. This deal has them doing so. In particular, Curry is the type of elite movement shooter that they don’t currently have on the roster. 

Meanwhile, second-round picks aren’t without value either. In recent years, we’ve seen some second-round steals revolutionize teams.
