This summer, the Knicks hotly pursued Donovan Mitchell. It seemed evident that they were willing to trade a large number of first-round picks for the star guard.

Now, it feels safe to assume that they’d be willing to do the same thing the next time a star player became available. 

This deal is strictly about acquiring more draft capital for New York. They’re not interested in Lee. They’re flipping Quickley for a first-round pick. 

It may sting. Quickley has been a great draft day find for this organization. He may have some fringe star potential, and he’s got a high floor even if he doesn’t reach it.
