Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal

Perhaps Siakam is best suited to be the second-best player on a contender.

He played that role before. Siakam was the second offensive option behind Kawhi Leonard during Toronto’s 2018-19 title run. With that said, he’s not looking like a first option this season.

That’s grounds for the Raptors to rebuild. With any luck, Scottie Barnes will develop into that guy in due time. Either way, it’s worth starting from scratch.

This deal helps them do that. All told, the Raptors are receiving three first-round picks and two pick swaps for their star wing here.
