Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal 

The Spurs are one of the worst teams in the NBA this season. That’s perfect. This team is as strong of a candidate to land Victor Wembanyama as any in the league. 

At the same time, they do have advantages over fellow tankers like the Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons, and Charlotte Hornets.

For starters, the Spurs have arguably the best coach in NBA history. They also have some solid veterans. 

This deal partly alleviates that concern. Poeltl is a solid defensive big – he’s a floor-raiser for a team that should prefer to have a low floor.
