Conventional wisdom dictates that a team trading a star ought to seek as much draft capital as possible. With that said, there are exceptions to every rule. 

For example, suppose the package includes three recent lottery picks. Now, imagine that same package includes a could-have-been lottery pick who slipped in the draft. A team may forego draft capital with that much young talent incoming. 

That’s the decision the Bulls would be making here. That near-lotto talent is Baldwin Jr. He had a rough college season in 2021-22, but he remains a 6’10 wing with a lethal jump shot and high upside. 

Still, the star of this return is Kuminga. He’s got real star potential, and the Bulls would do well to explore it.
