Why The Philadelphia 76ers Do The Deal
DeRozan isn’t the best fit for this team.
In fact, that’s what’s tricky about DeRozan. His shooting limitations mean that he’s not really the best fit for any team that’s not building their offense around him – and that’s not a recipe for title contention.
The Sixers should acquire him anyway. This is a pure talent grab for Philadelphia. If they acquired DeRozan, they’d be looking to overwhelm opponents with pure offensive ability on a nightly basis.
Frankly, the best role for DeRozan here may be as a sixth man. That’s a bold proposition – he’s overqualified for the job.

Still, if the Sixers could minimize the amount of time he spends with James Harden and Joel Embiid, they could keep a star-caliber offensive player on the floor at all times – and factoring in Tyrese Maxey, they could usually have two.
That sounds an awful lot like a super team to us.
