For a long time, the NBA had a bogeyman: the super team. 

You probably heard all the discourse. First, the Miami Heat were ruining the NBA. Then, it was the Golden State Warriors.

Most recently, the Brooklyn Nets were destroying the league’s competitive balance. In the meantime, something interesting happened.

Homegrown teams started ruling the roost. Now, contenders like the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics lean on players they drafted harder than anyone else. 

Of course, there are still aspiring super teams. For example, the Philadelphia 76ers did not draft James Harden. Their general manager, Daryl Morey, is known for chasing stars – and in turn, super teams. 

Here’s a deal that has him putting the finishing touches on this most recent one by acquiring DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls.
